The stars and the planting calendar. A study
of the movements and rhythms of the stars and planets and their
practical application to farming and gardening.
• The Soil: The phenomenology
of soil. The soil food web. Care and cultivation of soil. The
benefit of using compost and the making of compost heaps.
• The Farm Organism: The
concept of the farm (or garden) as a self-contained organism
and how this works in practice.
• The Biodynamic Preparations for the
soil, the atmosphere and for compost. Practical
demonstration of the making and application of the preparations,
carried out on one of the excursions to a working Biodynamic
farm. Making fermented manures. Treatment of fruit trees.
• The BD approach to Weeds and Pest
management.
• The importance of Seed Saving. Contemporary
issues in seed production and practical seed saving.
• Garden Planning, including
crop rotation and companion planting.
• Excursions: Two or three excursions
to working BD farms. If possible, visit a
dairy farm, a vineyard and a Kiwifruit farm. Making a box for
preparation storage.
• Wholemeal Sourdough Bread Baking in
the Ceres oven. One day workshop
