Have fun with hands on activities run by our cultural educators, then enjoy CERES facilities such as the café, playground and farm. Select one of the party themes, activities may vary depending on availability of educators.

Aboriginal Party
Held in the Aboriginal Namalata Willam shelter and supervised by an Aboriginal CERES educator.

  • Bush Tucker and Indigenous Plant Uses - learn how plants are used for food, drink, medicine, tools and building materials. Weave bracelets around the Aboriginal fire circle.
  • Rock Painting and Aboriginal Art - paint traditional Aboriginal symbols using ochre and tell dreamtime stories.
  • Boomerang and Dance - learn traditional songs and how to throw a boomerang

 

Indonesian Party
Held in the Indonesian Village and supervised by an Indonesian CERES educator.

  • Batik – design and create a piece of batik material to take home using hot wax and dyes.
  • Wayang & Angklung – tell stories with wayang (puppetry) and learn songs on the angklung (bamboo instrument).
  • Dance – learn a traditional Indonesian dance.
  • Becak and games – ride and drive a becak (bike used as public transport), play various Indonesian games.

 

African Party
Held in the African Village and supervised by an African CERES educator.

  • Village Activities - explore the collective work and responsibilities in an African Village: pounding grain, traditional libation spiritual welcoming, participate in mud brick making, hut construction, and thatching.
  • Music and Drumming – learn traditional rhythms on djembe drums and participate in chanting and group singing.
  • Traditional Games and Water Collection – play a variety of traditional African children’s games, collect water from the river and learn about how children work and play in Africa.

 

Indian Party
Held in the Indian classroom and supervised by an Indian CERES educator.

  • Arts and Crafts - Draw rangoli chalk decorations, get painted with mendhi henna tattoos, dress-up in saree (traditional clothes), and wear a bindi.
  • Music & Dancing – Sing and dance traditional folk songs. Perform contemporary Bollywood style Indian dancing. Chant traditional bhajans and explore the role of music within religion and festivals

 

Party Details
Age: Suitable for children Aged 5 – 10 (maximum 20)
Time: Parties run for 1.5 hours on Saturday or Sunday from 10.30am onwards.
Contact us: 9387 4472 to make a tentative booking. Confirmation is required after one week, once confirmed a $60 fee applies for changing the date or cancelling.
Cost: $198 This must be paid in full prior to the party. Pay by cheque, cash or credit card at CERES Visitor Centre (open 9 – 4.30 weekdays and 10 – 3pm weekends).
Meeting place: Our cultural educators will meet you at the place of the party, ie. Indonesian village.
Parent supervision: Parents have full responsibility for all children whilst at CERES therefore we require at least 4 parents to supervise during the party activities.
