CERES Café offers a unique and relaxed dining experience, surrounded by a beautiful outdoor garden setting, a playground for the children, and some of the best organic food available in Melbourne.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CERES CAFÉ…

LINE

The café uses around 80% organic ingredients, with as much as possible coming straight from the CERES organic market garden. We cook everything on site, even our own organic sausage rolls and fillos. All our sweets and cakes are cooked in the CERES kitchen, with a large range of organic dietary specific cakes available. Our gluten free sticky-date and ginger pudding is regularly voted by our customers as one of the best in town!!!

We make many of our own organic condiments, as well as supplying jams, chutneys and muffins to the CERES organic market every Saturday.

WATER
LINE

The rainwater collected from the roof of the café is stored in three 1000 litre tanks next to the kitchen and two 1000 litre bladders under the veranda of the café. The rainwater is filtered using a UV and sand filter setup by CERES and Yarra Valley Water. The collected rainwater is then pumped onto the roof of the café into solar pipes, where it receives its first stage of heating, then pumped into the hot water tanks behind the café, heated to 70%C and used in the dishwasher and hot water service of the café.

All our waste water enters the CERES grey-water bio-filter and natural reed bed, where it is treated by an experimental waste water system and used to water the surrounding lawns and gardens. All the cleaning products used in the cafe are organically based and phosphate free, supplied by Back to Basics.

WASTE

LINE

We have a policy of minimal take away service, reducing our non-renewable waste. Customers are encouraged to eat at the cafe, serving food on non-disposable plates with unbleached recycled paper napkins. No foam or plastic take away cups are available and all our food scraps are distributed through the worm-farms, chook yards and organic compost systems which feed the Market Garden.

We have an ever expanding selection of Australian native herbal and regular teas, and our Organic coffee is the perfect thing to sip while chatting lazily to friends as children safely explore the gardens, sandpit and the unique adventure playground.

Traditional Australian food plants and Bushfoods are a regular part of our organic menu.

Try our Warrigul greens and ricotta fillo, or our Honey-toasted wattleseed muesli. The relaxed and casual atmosphere will entice you back for one of our yummy organic weekend big breakfasts, with organic beef, sundried tomato and basil sausages, mushrooms, spinach, beetroot chilli relish, fresh eggs straight from the CERES chooks, and organic sourdough toast brushed with herb infused olive oil.

For your event, CERES is inviting you to celebrate in a unique, environmentally pioneering and peaceful venue. Escape the crowded concrete jungle of crazed shoppers and party animals and enjoy four hectares of community park.

CERES Café has an amazing selection of menus, able to be tailored to your special occasion, and with the recent addition of a liquor license, has organic beer, wine and spirits to help celebrate.

From a bush foods flavoured BBQ to an intimate fine dining experience under the stars or simply canapés and bubbly, choose your own style! Afterwards, you can walk off your organic celebratory feast among the grass and trees. CERES has a huge family of artists, musicians and performers for all ages and tastes, and can even arrange a visit from a special Christmas person.

By having your special function at CERES, you will be not only supporting an important community project and helping to sustain our beautiful environment, but also giving your staff/group a memorable end of year celebration.

SOME GOINGS ON AT CERES CAFÉ

LINE

You have probably noticed some of the recent changes we have made at CERES Cafe. Over the past twelve months, we have been working hard to move CERES Café toward a more sustainable future. We are always striving to improve our service to you, and although not everything we have tried over this past year has worked perfectly, we are working very hard to make your visit to CERES the most enjoyable possible. I believe CERES Café could be one of the most beautiful dining spaces in Melbourne. There are not many (if any) places where you can sit at mosaic tables, dine from a menu prepared using organic produce, at a venue where the environmental footprint created is kept to an absolute minimum by way of composting organic waste, recycling, using solar energy, utilising water collection and solar heating for hot water, and feeding all waste water through a grey water system.

Thanks for visiting CERES. If you have any comments or questions, feel freeto call me on 9380 8861, Monday to Thursday
