Energy Generation and Conservation
(Years 7-VCE)
Learn how electricity is generated with human-powered generators and a model coal-fired power station. Handle brown coal samples and consider problems associated with fossil fuel consumption and global warming. Visit the Origin Energy Park and investigate electromagnetic radiation, photovoltaic panels, solar street lights, solar thermal collectors, LED traffic lights, multipowered appliances, the windmill pump, the wind turbine, the water wheel hydro model and the methane digester. Visit the Origin Energy EcoHouse and participate in hands-on activities focusing on energy conservation, including aspects of embodied energy, passive solar design, heating and cooling, water heating, appliances and stand-by energy, and behavioural change. Link your lifestyle and population choices to future social and environmental scenarios for Australia.
