The Food Project - Seven Stars

The CERES Food Project is providing a place for social inclusion and celebrating local and CERES grown food
Best of all YOU get to enjoy the food!!

The CERES Food Project developed as a creative approach to deal with seasonal abundance grown onsite at CERES Environment Park in Brunswick. It has become an avenue to provide training and build opportunities for marginal communities.

This community enterprise began as a partnership with CERES and AMES (Adult Multicultural Education Services) and is now independently run at CERES.

Bringing local Turkish and Kurdish women from the Alevi Community together, Gullu, Hanife, Ilknur, Fadime, Selfi and Chevair were all trained in 2007/2008 and have received a Certificate IV in Hospitality. The Food Project has developed new skills, built confidence, new friendships and provided opportunities for economic participation in the community.

Through the enthusiasm of the women and growing interest in our program since its conception in February 2007 an organic food business, called The Seven Stars, was developed.

Using our seasonal abundance and rekindling the women’s traditions of preserving, a range of organic products including preserves, jams, sauces & chutneys is constantly being developed to showcase the abundant seasonal harvest. These products are sold at the CERES MARKET SHOPPEE and our local Farmers Markets.

Most excitingly is Seven Stars catering- offering finger food to buffet and a fantastic range of fresh, organic, pastries, salads, hot, cold dishes and blow your mind sweets!

From catering for music star Jack Johnson concert tour in 2008 to providing spinach cake and champagne for the opening of CERES new Education Centre, we offer not only great food and service but extra value and positivity to any event.
