CERES Food Trail – Intro

CERES sustainable food trail
Welcome to the CERES food trail. The trail has been designed to allow you to track the complex web that is the CERES food cycle. The path takes you through key elements of CERES food production, distribution and consumption. It includes a visit to our permaculture and bushfood nursery, organic market, certified organic demonstration farm, orchards, community gardens and chooks and organic café.
The overarching goal of CERES Food initiatives is to localise food systems and lower food miles. Food miles equate to the distance travelled by ship, train, and other modes of transport to deliver produce to point of sale. In 2007, CERES produced a Food Miles Report which found that many items in an average weekly shopping basket are shipped or trucked over 70,803km. This means that the food has travelled almost 2 times around the world to reach our dinner table.
We hope that by increasing your understanding of CERES Food production and distribution you will be inspired to find local food projects in your area and if there are none currently then we hope you consider engaging with people around you to create your own.
