CERES World Medicinal Garden group
Towards a sustainable healthcare future
The World Medicinal Garden at CERES is a volunteer group interested in locally growing and harvesting medicinal plants. We promote learning about cultivation of medicinal plants and preservation of cultural traditions of healing. We support a locally based, self reliant approach to medicinal plants.
Our initial focus is on creating a medicinal plant garden display scattered throughout the Multicultural Village at CERES. This garden will become a resource for education and cultural exchange for those interested in plant medicines. Eventually we hope to harvest herbs for manufacture herbal medicines and tea mixes unique to CERES.
Our first display - Traditional Eastern medicinal plants – is located in the Indonesian village behind the rice patties. The next stage will be the European medicinal garden.
Through developing these garden beds we are actively learning from each other and our different cultural backgrounds. As a group we also hope to learn more about medicinal plants from an experiential perspective - through close observation of cultivation and growth – which, we believe, may be of some value in our clinical practice.
