CERES Return of the Sacred Kingfisher Festival - Nov 28th, 2009
When the Kingfisher returned to the Merri Creek it was a sign that the regeneration of the Creek was having a positive effect. Over the years this work has continued and developed and CERES has grown and blossomed.
On our journey through life, signs are present to guide us if we take the time to look, listen and feel for them. Working with Indigenous signs, the deaf community, musicians, and choreographers this years Kingfisher Festival will create an immersive installation inviting the audience to listen with all of their body, to go on a journey of discovery and to come together in celebration of the work that has happened on this old rubbish tip to make it what it is now, a beautiful returning place for the Sacred Kingfisher.
The 2009 Kingfisher celebration will take the community on a journey through a sound and movement installation. Starting together the audience will be welcomed, then sent to discover their own pathways through the oasis that CERES has become. They will be invited to explore new places, old places, and forbidden places. On the way they will be invited to participate in activities, dreaming, reflections. The audience will be bought back together to share their experiences and celebrate the journey so far.
If you would like to be a part of this years Kingfisher Festival, there are many opportunities, and for each of these there is no prior experience necessary:
