CERES invites women to participate in a special program in the Mäpuru homelands community, East Arnhem Land, in mid 2011.

This weaving workshop is open to women who are interested in learning about Yolngu culture from workshop leaders who are passing on their traditional skills and knowledge to future generations; “it is, as it always has been.”

Weaving is used as a means of cultural exchange and will enable participants to witness and learn the entire process of weaving; from the collection of barks and pandanus and ‘kala’ (natural dyes), to the preparation of the bark, to the actual weaving and creation of pieces. Through sharing their days with local women participants will experience the extraordinary way of life in a homelands community and in doing so, support this Indigenous community enterprise.

Register your Expression of Interest
Following the considerable interest in, and the success of, the Mäpuru trip in July 2010, CERES Global is currently planning a second and possibly third trip during April – July 2011. We invite expressions of interest to be emailed to ceresglobal@ceres.org.au.
