Propagation
The CERES Propagation enterprise began in 2004. Two staff members recognised a gap in the market for organic seedlings and volunteered their time to establish the enterprise. With hard work and a lot of effort they began supplying the CERES Market Gardens and Nursery with vegetable seedlings within a few months!
CERES Propagation has grown into a successful enterprise, employing two staff supported by a team of volunteers and students.
Onsite at the Honey Lane Market Garden, the propagation team grows certified organic vegetable and herb seedlings, with a particular emphasis on open pollinated and heirloom varieties.
The seedlings are supplied to the two market gardens at CERES and are available for sale at the CERES Nursery and other local nurseries.
CERES Propagation is a vital link in the CERES community food system. Everything grown in the Honey Lane garden, and around 80% of the produce from the Merri Creek garden is propagated by our propagation team.
Each week volunteers provide the propagation team with help in all aspects of the enterprise from sowing seed to general maintenance.
New volunteers are always welcome. For more information on volunteering head to the volunteer page.
