Car Park and Lee Street - Stormwater Harvesting via Bio-retention System
During and after rain, huge amounts of water wash off our urban environment and into the stormwater drains and urban waterways. This water can be heavily polluted, and in such large volumes has a detrimental effect on these waterways.
Lee Street and the CERES car park, like most streets and car parks, produce large amounts of runoff water pollued with oils, heavy metals, and sediment such as tyre residues. To dramatically reduce the impact on local and downstream waterways CERES will be installing a bio-retention system at the car park. This system uses natural processes to help treat the water before it is stored on site for later use on the market gardens.
