During and after rain, huge amounts of water wash off our urban environment and into stormwater drains and urban water ways. This water can be heavily polluted and creates flash flooding.
The CERES dam catches, treats and stores stormwater to reduce the negative impacts of stormwater on receiving waters, and provide an alternative water supply to mains water. This dam collects stormwater from the surrounding area, including car parks, streets, buildings, and the nursery. The water is treated and reused for irrigation and habitat creation.
You might find these animals at the dam:
Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) TheSacred Kingfisher returns to the Merri Creek catchment to breed in spring. They feed on insects, reptiles and occasionally fish.
Pobblebonk Frog (Lionnodynastes dumerili) The Pobblebonk Frog get its name from the sound of its croak!
