CERES is establishing a new community site centre. Like all buildings this new centre will impact on the environment.

The design team is working to ensure the new centre is an example of the best that can be achieved in environmentally sensitive design, and best pracxtice water management. This will include rainwater collection and use, water use minimisation, and waste water recycling. By reducing water use here we are also saving significant amounts of energy as it takes 0.6kWh/m3 to treat wasterwater back to potable levels.

The purpose of the Sustainable Community Centre is to inspire and support local sustainable living. To achieve this, the centre is planned to include:

Peace Centre

• A place for different cultures to practice their arts and crafts, dance and music.
• Resources for peace education.
• Base for East Timor and developing countries support.

Community Facilities

• Community kitchen.
• Community tools and workshop space.
• Community meeting spaces.
• Hall for concerts, conferences, weddings.
• Yoga and meditation room.

Green Building

• The centre will demonstrate best practice environmental design: energy and water conservation, grey water re-use, waste minimisation, ecological planning and environmentally friendly building.
